professional clinic set up for the skin blemish removal treatment

Advanced Cosmetic Procedures (Electrolysis)

Advanced electrolysis is a non-invasive, safe, and effective method for skin blemish removal that utilizes electrolysis (heat) to target and damage specific cells. The treatment involves an advanced machine that delivers an electrical current through a probe, allowing it to cauterize the blemish and enabling removal without surgery.

This popular method is favored because it doesn’t leave marks or scars and is considered safer than other treatments like cryotherapy, excision, or surgery. A blemish treated with advanced electrolysis is unlikely to reoccur. In most cases of skin blemish removal, one to two treatments are sufficient; however, certain conditions like xanthelasma or specific types of warts may require additional sessions for the desired outcome.

After treatment, the blemish will gradually fade, and there is minimal downtime involved. You may experience slight reddening or swelling, warmth in the treated area, and itchiness during the healing process. It’s essential to follow the post-treatment recommendations provided during your consultation and to use the appropriate skincare products explained by your practitioner.

Before proceeding with any skin lesion removal, including tags, moles, or any growth tissue, you will need to obtain a written consent letter from a qualified UK licensed medical doctor confirming that the lesion is non-cancerous. If you’re having difficulty seeing your local doctor, our Stockport clinic offers a speedy service with our online dermatologist for any lesion check-ups. Contact us for more details.

Advanced Electrolysis Treatment at Derma Mind Laser Clinic

Milia Removal

  • Milia is a common skin condition that causes tiny pearly white rounded lumps (cysts) under the surface of your skin. They contain keratin and get quite hard.
  • Milia appear mostly on the cheekbones near to eye and are formed when sebum becomes trapped in a blind duct, with no surface opening.
  • Milia can appear on people of all ages, ethnicity and genders.
  • Causes of milia related to diet with a high cholesterol count; damage to the skin from an injury or sun exposure.
  • Milia can reform, therefore may need further treatment. If you are predisposed to this condition, it can mean ongoing treatment will need to manage and reduce the appearance of milia.
  • Milia treatment is performed by tiny probe sending hot current inside the lesion. The energy created breaks down the hard fatty tissue and allows it to disperse into the body. 1 – 2 days later a tiny crust may form which must not be removed but left to drop off.
  • Advanced electrolysis techniques are most effective causing less skin damage with less risk of scaring.

Skin Tags Removal

  • Skin tags are small growths that hang off your skin. They're common and harmless. These skin tags usually start small but might grow over time.
  • They are found on perfectly healthy people and are not directly associated with any other major medical conditions although heredity also has its part to play. The other causes remains unproven with ongoing discussions whether they originate from the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
  • Some people are more susceptible to skin tags; they are most common in older and/or overweight people, they can appear in pregnancy and individuals with diabetes.
  • Skin tags are made of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels surrounded by skin. The colour can be changed and be hyper pigmented making them more obvious.
  • Skin Tags form mainly in areas where skin creases form e.g. armpits, groin, neck and under women’s breasts, and may also develop on the face and eye lids.
  • Skin tags will very rarely grow back in the same place after removal but could grow back in the same general area of the body.
  • Electrolysis is a quick, easy and effective method of skin tag removal and is safe to use in all areas – even between eyelashes.

Flat Red Blood Spots (Angiomas)

  • Campbell de Morgan spots, also known as cherry angiomas or blood spots. While they may be distressing to live with, they are a completely harmless vascular blemish.
  • Typical bright cherry red colour but can appear blue or purple.
  • Campbell De Morgan’s are found on individuals of any race or ethnic background and increase with age. Common to appear on trunk, chest, also face and neck.
  • Very common in middle age and elderly, also during or pregnancy. Often a genetic link but also all same causes as telangiectasia apply e.g. ageing, sun damage, trauma.
  • These red angiomas are dispersed with a low diathermy electrolysis technique and generally disappear immediately, although some will turn a pale grey and disappear over a few days.
  • For very large blood spots, two treatments may be required: to cauterize and reduce the blood spot and to reduce any remaining colour after the initial treatment has healed.

Seborrheic Keratosis Removal

  • Seborrheic Keratosis known as Sebboroiec Warts but non viral and non contagious.
  • It is very common, harmless, non-cancerous raised skin growth with stuck on wart-like appearance.
  • Commonly found on the torso, back, chest, and face but can be anywhere on the body.
  • Can vary in color from light tan, brown to black and may become itchy or irritated. They can be tiny or large as they grow older.
  • Causes: Genetics so usually run in families, Age (typically after age 30) and Sun Exposure.
  • It is vital to confirm the correct diagnosis with dermatologist as keratosis can be mistaken with other skin blemishes or skin diseases, especially malignant melanoma. A written confirmation is necessary before treatment takes place.
  • If the keratosis growth is irritating, rapidly changing its appearance or constantly catching on clothing and bleeds and it is less than 12 months old, you must immediately see doctor and check the lesion further.
  • Seborrheic Keratosis can be removed using a tiny probe with electrical current by lifting the lesion gently leaving fresh new skin to heal, or desiccating the lesion leaving it to scab which then falls off naturally. It is crucial that you adhere to aftercare recommendations and avoiding any kind of UV radiation post treatment for several weeks or until fresh skin is still on healing process.

Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra Removal

  • Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) is a benign epidermal growth that presents as pigmented or skin-colored papules that develop on the face, neck or chest in dark skin tones.
  • The lesions are histologically identical to seborrheic keratosis. They are smooth, dome shaped and highly pigmented.
  • Most commonly affecting people of African and Asian descent.
  • Causes: Unknown, but it often runs in families (genetic factor), it linked to sun exposure and hormonal changes.
  • Even though DPN is a harmless, non-cancerous condition, a medical professional diagnosis is needed to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other conditions. A written confirmation from doctor is necessary before treatment takes place.
  • Thermolysis method is used to “tickle or touch” the lesion with electrical current on very superficial level so it is not leaving a scar. It is kinder to skin to avoid removing the bubble, so we let lesion to scab and to leave it to fall off naturally. Immediate reaction will be redness, slight swelling, lesion will turn greyish black with a crusty appearance.
  • A second treatment is not usually required, but can be chosen to treat again if any plaque is still left.

Sebaceous Hyperplasia Removal

  • Sebaceous Hyperplasia is a small bump and happens when sebaceous oil glands make too much oil and overgrowth on top of the skin. This creates small, slightly yellowish or skin-colored bumps with a central dent.
  • It's a harmless, benign growth. Common most in adults, comes with age and in people who has oily skin or sun damaged skin and often genetically predisposed.
  • The lesions are sometimes confused with basal cell carcinoma, therefore the skin biopsy and correct diagnosis is vital. A written confirmation is necessary before treatment takes place.
  • Sebaceous hyperplasia is a benign disease and generally does not require treatment and it can be left just be. However, lesions can be unsightly and bothersome and can be treated for cosmetic reasons.
  • Electrocauthery is far the most common, safe and effective treatment known of treating them. A tiny probe with low current is used to dry out the content (melting flat to the skin level). After treatment the appearance of hyperplasia may change it may whiten or flatten before it reduces.
  • Keep in mind, because it is due to an oil gland overgrowth below the skin surface, even if it has been treated and melted down, usually it wants to grow back later (1-3 years later) - you may need some maintenance to keep them in check.

Fibrous Papule Removal

  • A fibrous papule (medically known as angiofibroma), is usually made of collagen and blood vessels. It can often be difficult to distinguish between a papule, pimple, acne, or skin tag.
  • The exact cause behind the occurrence of fibrous papules is unknown. Some factors that lead to excess growth of collagen in the body are: Hereditary factors, constant exposure to UV rays, trauma or injury, reaction to certain medications.
  • Appearance: Dome-shaped or slightly raised, smooth, and typically flesh-colored, though they can sometimes appear pink or red.
  • Location: Most frequently found on the tip or sides of the nose.
  • Although it’s more common to have a single papule, some people may experience multiple papule growths on the nose and in the central region of the face. These papules are firm to the touch and, in some instances, can stick out like skin tags. They can range in size from 1 to 5 mm and may be slightly red or the same colour as your skin.
  • It is vital to confirm the correct diagnosis with dermatologist as these papules can be mistaken with other skin blemishes skin cancer. A written confirmation is recommended/necessary before treatment takes place.
  • Fibrous papules can typically be left untreated because they’re harmless; however, if you would like to remove them for cosmetic reasons, advanced electrolysis is a safe and long-lasting treatment option.

Syringoma Removal

  • Syringoma are non contagious flesh colored papules trapped in the sweat duct. They are benign and mainly appear under the eye, eyelids, upper cheeks and generally symmetrical to each side of face.
  • The cause of syringoma is not exactly known but may be due hereditary. Syringoma usually develop on the skin type that has oily complexion. Also found on skin that are often in a moist hot environment.
  • It is vital to confirm the correct diagnosis with dermatologist as syringoma can be mistaken with other skin blemishes or skin disease. A written confirmation is necessary before treatment takes place.
  • Syringomas typically do not resolve on their own and treatment is often sought for cosmetic reasons.
  • Electrolysis is safe and effective method of treating syringoma. The tip of the probe is introduced superficially into the skin. A scab will form and the treated area will look worse before it gets better. We treat one side of the face at the time. It may be necessary to perform 2nd treatment if there are any plaque remains.

Xanthelasma (Xantomas) Removal

  • Xanthelasma are soft, flat, yellow-white, fatty deposits that form just under the skin, most commonly on or near your eyelid skin.
  • You can have one or more xanthelasmas. If you have more than one, they may look the same on each eyelid.
  • While xanthelasmas can be signs of other health conditions, they aren’t harmful themselves. Having xanthelasmas could be a sign of: Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), thyroid problems, high blood pressure. Family history of high cholesterol or xanthelasma can be a cause as well.
  • To have the most accurate prognosis, your healthcare provider will check your cholesterol levels and perform other blood tests.
  • It is also vital to confirm the correct diagnosis with dermatologist as if lesion does not look like typical xanthelasma, a written confirmation from doctor is necessary before treatment takes place.
  • Xanthelasma doesn’t go away without treatment. Instead, it stays the same size or gets bigger.
  • Electrolysis is safe, effective and affordable method of treating them. Treatment with advanced electrolysis will visibly reduce the raised appearance but it may take more than one session. A tiny probe with low current will touch the blemish which then change colour to darker cream or yellow. A scab will form which need to be left naturally fall off.

Pigmentation Spots Removal

  • Age spots (known as brown spots, liver spots, solar lentigo) are flat pigmented blemishes that occur on the skin. They range from light brown to darker brown and are located in areas most exposed to the sun.
  • They are harmless and benign but considered unattractive.
  • If pigment spot is slightly raised - it is known as Solar Keratosis and with evidence of redness and scaly appearance - you have to check those lesions with doctor. NOTE: We do not treat Actinic Keratosis.
  • Depth of colour relates to depth of pigment, the lighter is pigment - the deep away from surface it sits; and the darker is the age spot - the higher concentration in surface layers which is easier to treat.
  • It is vital to confirm the correct diagnosis with dermatologist as age spot can be mistaken with other skin blemishes or skin disease, especially malignant melanoma. A written confirmation is necessary before treatment takes place.
  • Electrolysis treatment: small probe the size of an eyelash, will touch the surface of the skin, a slight stinging sensation may be experienced. There are 2 methods we can treat pigment: slicing it away or desiccating and achieving “peeling” effect. Prepare for skin to look worse before it gets better.
  • New pink skin is very susceptible to pigmentation. It can take several months whilst healing skin will match same skin tone. Wearing Sunblock on treated area and avoiding UV radiation is absolutely essential!

Warts (filiform, common and plane) Removal

  • If you have skin wart, it means that you came in contact with a wart-causing virus sometime in the past, though it could have been months ago. Warts are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) and are highly contagious.
  • Filiform warts: they have long, narrow projections that extend about 1-2 mm from the skin, usually on face. They can be yellow, brown, pink, or skin-toned, and don’t generally form in clusters. Plane Warts: Small, flat, and skin-colored, common on the face and hands. Common Warts: Found on fingers, knuckles, and knees, with a cauliflower-like appearance. Verrucas/Plantar Warts: Warts on the soles of the feet, which can be painful and may have central black dots. Mosaic Warts: Clusters of warts on the feet or hands.
  • Over the counter options may be convenient, but they are often not effective. Warts are deeply rooted and most of the times, the over the counter freeze sprays will never get cold enough to freeze the wart completely.
  • It is vital to confirm the correct diagnosis with dermatologist as wart can be mistaken with other skin blemishes or skin diseases, especially if the lesion is on the face. A written confirmation is necessary before treatment takes place.
  • Warts are removed using electrolysis - an electrical current to cauterize the blood supply to the wart. If you have quite a few in the area - we can treat “mother” wart - the rest of warts with the same virus type will be destroyed too.

Mole reduction treatment

  • Moles are common small blemishes on the skin which usually appear in the first few decades of life in almost everyone. Average young adult having up to 25 moles.
  • If mole displays any recent significant change in size, shape or colour or symptoms of itching, irritating, burning, crust formation, ulceration or inability to heal - no treatment can be offered, see your doctor immediately!
  • Before the mole reduction treatment takes place, it is absolutely necessary to check the mole cells and get doctor’s approval. No excision is made and nothing is sent away for investigation however mole needs to be checked under dermatoscope. If you need a quick and affordable approval, we suggest using Dermoscopy Spot Check service at our clinic.
  • Electrolysis is safe, effective and quick method of visibly reducing the appearance of totally healthy moles. A tiny probe is tapped over the surface of the mole and small stinging sensation and heat is experienced. Mole will appear yellowish, dry and firm and the scab will form that needs to be left naturally fall away.
  • The energy used by electrolysis treatment will dry the most (at least 80%) of the fluid within the cellular stricture but it wont treat the cells responsible for “building the mole” neither the cells responsible for mole pigment. Therefore the mole may need more than one treatment.
